This article discusses how information technology tools offer major benefits to treatment plant operators, and focuses on three applications including supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), reporting software, and process‐decision modeling. A case study is presented of the Lowell Regional Water Utility in Lowell, Massachusetts, where the 40 year old facility was upgraded to using the new information technology tools.
