Graffiti on water tanks can be expensive to repaint and dangerous to permit. Various methods to discourage this type of vandalism include fences, special lighting and warning systems around tanks, anti‐climbing devices on tank legs, or removal of lower sections of exterior ladders. La Junta, Colorado has devised a unique form of preventing graffiti, by allowing the painting of an annual class design by student artists from the local schools on one of three 3 MG ground‐storage water tanks with white flat surfaces.
