This article discusses the need to address issues emerging from racial differences in the workplace under the heading of leadership development. Traditionally leadership development centers on creating models of leadership, describing what constitutes effective leadership, and identifying skills and competencies that will improve the capacity to be a good leader. However, in the real world, relationships among people of different races are often sources of conflict, friction, and discord. Effective leadership is necessary to mediate and resolve issues stemming from these racially induced differences.
