Abstract In five known electrode glasses 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 4.0, 8.0 and 16.0 mole‐% silicon dioxide were substituted by germanium dioxide. The glasses containing 0.5 to 2.0 mole‐% germanium dioxide normally showed a considerable improvement in the workability compared with the original glasses. Up to 4 mole‐% germanium dioxide the alkaline error and bulb resistance of the corresponding glass electrodes are only slightly changed.
