The communities of cl. Querco‐Fagetea B R. ‐B L. & V LIEGER in V LIEGER 1937 of the Lower Volga Valley

The present paper is a continuation of a set of investigations aimed at description of the Lower Volga valley vegetation (G OLUB & M IRKIN 1986; G OLUB Č ORBADZE 1989; G OLUB et al. 1991; G OLUB 1994; G OLUB & T CHORBADZE 1995; G OLUB & K UZMINA 1996). The communities preliminary related to the cl. Querco‐Fagetea B R. ‐B L. & V LIEGER in V LIEGER 1937 are considered in the article. In the Lower Volga Valley they occur in natural state only in the Volga‐Akhtuba floodplain and are absent in the Volga delta. The new alliance – Poo‐Ulmion – and the two new associations – Poo angustifolia‐Quercetum roburi and Poo angustifoliae‐Ulmetum – as well as the one unranked community ( Prunus spinosa ) is distinguished.
