The paper presents a general procedure for dealing with coupled fluid‐structure interaction under dynamic load. This incorporates a facility for dealing with a cavitating fluid and is based on the Newton displacement potential. Several solutions are obtained for two‐dimensional gravity dam problems illustrating the effects of cavitation on earthquake response and blast loading.
