Abstract The structure of the new partially ordered cluster phase La 0.69(1) (Al 0.12(1) I 0.88(1) ) was determined by a combined methodical approach of electron microscopy techniques and X‐ray diffraction. The structure is derived from the Gd 3 CCl 3 ‐type and ca. 50 % of the cluster positions in this structure type are occupied. The majority of the clusters are condensed via common edges, however, the degree of cluster condensation is low. The arrangement of neighboring clusters is comparable to chemically related, but strongly disordered cluster phases. (© Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 69451 Weinheim, Germany, 2007)
