SUMMARY An adaptive notch filter composed of an exponential type all‐pass circuit has stable and the robust characteristics for broadband signals. In this paper, we propose a method of reducing the number of adaptive parameters and the adaptive algorithm using a frequency sampling adaptive filter with reduction of the phase shift samples. It is shown that a reduction of an order of magnitude or more is possible by use of the properties of a notch filter with small bandwidth.
