Abstract A method is presented for determining the transfer‐function H ( z ) of an asymptotically stable digital filter on the basis of a prescription for phase in a certain frequency interval. The restrictions to be imposed on the prescribed phase function are investigated. It is possible to make amplitude prescription in addition. The results will be demonstrated with the aid of a simple example.
