Abstract The method for determining the full elastic constants tensor for hexagonal crystals from the characteristic Debye temperatures obtained by X‐ray diffraction technique in different crystallorgraphic directions is given. All five elastic constants at different temperatures between 10 and 720 K for beryllium oxide with wurtzite structure are calculated using this method.
