Stock solutions of mononuclear M 1 (0) (M=Pt, Au) atoms are prepared by reducing corresponding metal chloride precursors with ethanol in a low boiling point glycol ether solvent. Importantly, the solvent also functions as ligand protecting the M 1 (0) atoms from aggregation. The stock solutions provide pre‐reduced M 1 (0) atoms for material fabrication by evaporative removal of the solvent and the weak ligands. This work demonstrates an application of the stock solutions for the preparation of atomically dispersed Pt 1 (0) and Au 1 (0) on a metal oxide substrate surface.
