Abstract The flow pattern and velocity distributions in the annulus of two concentric rotating spheres with meridional through‐flow have been studied by a finite difference solution based on the full Navier‐Stokes equations. These results were compared with these from an available but necessarily more approximate analytical solution. The flow fields near the inlet and outlet were elucidated and the effect of the through‐flow Reynolds number on the radial and azimuthal velocity components were clarified. These latter results were unobtainable by the analytical solution.
