Abstract Aerosol precipitation by ionisation scrubbers. The precipitation efficiency of an ionisation scrubber was investigated. The design of this type of precipitator is based on the principles of a flat plate film absorber. The scrubbing liquid is continuously distributed on top of the plates by forming the collecting film. The gas, which is saturated with water along the flow straighteners, is led countercurrently to the scrubbing liquid film. Between the plates discharge electrodes are mounted. The objective of this work was the testing of the design and scale up fundamentals. Besides, it was found that there must be a relation between the gas velocity and the electrical discharge field, which is part of the Deutsch equation.
