The isolation and study of aromatic compounds that contain at least one transition metal ring atom is an area of expanding interest. New compounds of this type that extend our understanding of aromaticity include metalla‐pentalenes, metallapentalynes, metallaanthracenes and spiro‐metallaaromatic compounds. This Concept article discusses these and other new advances within the context of more established metallaaromatic compounds, see L. J. Wright and B. J. Frogley on page 2025 ff.
