Bulk and supported nickel phosphides were successfully synthesized from solid nickel(II)‐triphenylphosphine complex by a simple thermal treatment in hydrogen flow at 618 K, and the resulting silica‐supported nickel phosphide catalyst exhibited superior activity for sulfur removal from dibenzothiophene over the catalyst prepared from nickel phosphate by conventional temperature‐programmed reduction.
