[An(H 2 O) 9 ](CF 3 SO 3 ) 3 (An=U–Cm, Cf): Exploring Their Stability, Structural Chemistry, and Magnetic Behavior by Experiment and Theory

Lanthanide‐like : X‐ray diffraction and density functional theory studies show that [An(H 2 O) 9 ] 3+ ions of the actinides U 3+ –Cf 3+ in crystals of their triflate salts have the same structure and electrostatic bonding as their lanthanide counterparts La 3+ –Eu 3+ . Moreover, the nine‐coordinate geometry is essentially preserved in solution for the lighter elements (see picture).
