The dimeric pyrrole–imidazole alkaloid massadine chloride ( 1 , see scheme) was isolated from the Caribbean sponge Stylissa caribi ca. The structure elucidation of massadine chloride and its transformation into massadine ( 3 ) via an intermediate “massadine aziridine” ( 2 ) is discussed.
