The one‐electron reduction of MnO 4 ⊖to MnO 4 2⊖can be achieved in anhydrous medium with dialkali‐metal catecholates 1 in presence of crown ethers. The semiquinone radical anion 2 formed in the reaction was detected, inter alia, by ENDOR spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry (M Li, Na, K).
