Organic compounds incubated with tritiated water of specific activity 5 Ci/ml are specifically fragmented. The β‐active fragments can be detected in very small quantities by chromatographic separation. Chemical identification of these fragments provides information about the original compounds, as has been shown by experiments with amino acids, esters, lactones, amides, quinones, terpenes, nitrogen‐sulfur heterocycles, and natural products.
