Transactions with therapists and the “real” world: A comment on weitz et al., “a transactional model applied to therapy.”

Some assumptions developed by Weitz, Hughes, Newbrough, Wallston, Armstrong, and Roback (1979) for their transactional model of therapy are of questionable necessity. The approach to practice that Weitz et al. present goes beyond their theory in its creative utilization of therapy as a “special” situation and in its attention to and use of the clients' environment. It is these aspects which require further theoretical and pragmatic development.
