Chewing and spitting out food is thought to be a common symptom among people with eating disorders but it has largely been neglected in recent research and diagnostic criteria. We present two cases where chewing and spitting out food was prominent. In each case the symptom differed in its presentation and in the function it served for the patient. © 1995 by John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
