A metaanalysis of 25 outcome studies considered the relative effectiveness of drug therapy and psychological therapy in the treatment of bulimia. The evidence suggested that psychotherapy in general (mean effect‐size = 1.14), and especially when combined with dietary management (mean effect‐size = 1.30), was superior to drug therapy (mean effect‐size = 0.60).
