Abstract Adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS) of the uterine cervix is a rare lesion which may be a precursor of invasive adenocarcinoma. In 6 of 8 cases, it was associated with coexisting epidermoid carcinoma in situ of the cervix. AIS may not be diagnosable on small cone biopsies and was not found in 3 instances of fractional curettage. The cytologic diagnosis may be obscured by the coexisting epidermoid carcinoma in situ. We believe hysterectomy is the treatment of choice.
