Abstract Microspectrophotometric measurements of Feulgen‐stained syncytiotrophoblastic and cytotrophoblastic nuclei were carried out in 3 cases of hydatidiform mole, 1 case of chorioadenoma destruens, and 2 cases of choriocarcinoma. In all but the earliest mole studied, nuclear DNA values of the cytotrophoblast were widely dispersed in the tetraploid to hyperoctaploid range. The nuclear DNA values of syncytiotrophoblastic nuclei were restricted to a diploid to tetraploid distribution except in the 2 cases of choriocarcinoma in which the wide dispersion of values in both syncytiotrophoblast and cytotrophoblast rendered the two cell types indistinguishable.
