Abstract Sufficient steric protection and the right experimental procedures have been the key to success in the synthesis of 2‐silanaphthalene 1 and tetrasilabutadiene 2 by the groups of Tokitoh/Okazaki and Weidenbruch, respectively. Both substances are important model compounds that allow the study of conjugation effects in hetero π systems.
