Abstract Line‐up fairness measurement came into being before the sequential line‐up was introduced. To date the experimental evidence suggests that it is robust against line‐up unfairness, and the modified sequential line‐up should handle any lingering problems. Eyewitness experts should focus their efforts on replacing the simultaneous line‐up, thereby rendering line‐up fairness measurement obsolete. Copyright © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
