Abstract The mass spectrometric characterization of a series of [ReOX(PY) 2 ] complexes containing bidentate phosphinoenolate and phosphinoamine ligands has been achieved by electron impact mass spectrometry and metastable ion studies. The data obtained showed a higher stability of the complexes bearing the phosphinoenolate ligand with respect to the phosphinoamine ligand. An increase in the stability of the complexes by decreasing the atomic radius of the halogen was also observed.
