Several studies have examined the trends in clinical features and coronary risk factors of Japanese patient with acute myocardial infarction (MI) -. In recent years, Japan has seen the launch of large prospective observational studies regarding the treatment and outcomes of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in cardiovascular centers -, such as the JMIC-D (Japan Multicenter Investigation for Cardiovascular Disease) , JACSS (Japanese acute coronary syndrome study) , OACIS (Osaka Acute Coronary Insufficiency Study) , PACIFIC (Prevention of Atherothrombotic Incidents Following Ischemic Coronary Attack) , and J-MINUET (Japanese Registry of Acute Myocardial Infarction Diagnosed by Universal Definition) 15) studies. These studies provided a clear picture of the characteristics and outcomes of patients with ACS in Japan. First, the proportion of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is higher in Japan than in Western countries . Second, the rate of reperfusion therapy for ACS is much higher in Japan (85-95%) compared to Western countries (40-50%) -.
