The use, production and consumption of collaborative maps on internet reveal possibilities of a communication embedded in places. Devices like Google Maps represent the cartographic basis enabling the making of collaborative maps. Differently from what happens on official mapping, these new maps don't focus on a cartographer validating the mapping operation. As such, these maps potentialize new practices on urban space, where people organize around the problems and demands of great urban centers. It is a political appropriation of urban spaces connected with new communication technologies, since many of these maps present links with social networks and blogs.
