Carbonates from the Kenong area were found to contain Late Permian foraminifers and calcareous algae. These taxa can be correlated with similar forms reported from the Tethyan region, in particular to the Eastern Tethys. The fossil assemblages in these carbonates were fairly diverse and abundant and were interpreted to have inhabited warm shallow shelfal seas with open circulation. The predominance of limy-mud matrix and the poor sorting indicate that the environment was analogous to a mud bank that was formed on localized high.
