パーティクルボードの物性が耐朽性に及ぼす影響と,防腐処理法の検討を行った。ボードの比重や樹脂率を高めると,白腐れ菌Pycnoporus coccineusに対して耐朽性が向上した。しかし,褐色腐れ菌Serpula lacrymansでは逆の関係が認められた。また,原料樹種や削片の大きさも耐朽性に影響するが,その関係は菌種によって異なった。防腐処理に関しては,接着剤への防腐薬剤の混入やボード表面への薬剤塗布に,それぞれ効果が期待出来る。一方,溶液状態での薬剤注入はボードの強度を大きく低下させ,実用的でない。また,腐朽菌類だけでなくカビ類に対する対策も怠ってはならない。カビ類はたとえ木材を分解しなくとも,ボードの接着層を劣化させるからである。
