The paper presents problems of stormwater drainage on urban areas, with a focus on the city of Pirot. In the city of Pirot drainage problems have previously been addressed inadequately, the traditional way, based on collecting all stormwater from the city area by combined sewer system and its drainage to the neares recipient, not taking into account the city growth and urbanisation. The paper shows the importance of integral way of stormwater planning and management in the urban areas and gives a summary of the methods and procedures for control of stormwater runoff on urban areas
