Esta revisão foi realizada com o propósito de identificar o perfil químico e potencial biofarmacológico de 44 espécies de Senna nativas do Nordeste do Brasil, empregando a ferramenta de busca www.scopus.com (1971-2014). Esta coleção compreende quase mil coletas realizadas em todos os estados do nordeste, durante 73 anos em áreas de Caatinga, Cerrado, Mata Atlântica e zonas de transição entre estes sistemas. Entre as espécies pesquisadas, 61% permanecem sem nenhum relato de estudos químico e farmacológicos. A composição química das espécies pesquisadas apresentou-se estruturalmente diversificada. Foram identificados 183 compostos de diversas classes como polióis, alcaloides, flavonoides, esteroides, estilbenos e triterpenos, sendo que antraquinonas e cromenos nas formas livres e glicosiladas são os compostos mais frequentemente relatados (54%). Foram registradas para as espécies de Senna pesquisadas, 68 atividades biofarmacológicas comprovadas, destacando-se as atividades antioxidante e antitumoral.  DOI: 10.5935/1984-6835.20160012This review was performed to identify the chemical profile and bio-pharmacological potential of 44 native species of Senna of Brazil, using the www.scopus.com (1971-2014). This collection consist of a thousand samples collected in all northeastern states for 73 years in the Caatinga, Cerrado, Atlantic Forest and transition zones between these systems. The chemical composition of the studied species presents structurally diverse. Among the Senna species search, 61% have no report of chemical and pharmacological studies. 183 different compounds such as polyols, alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, triterpenes and stilbenes were identified, while the free and glycosylated anthraquinones and chromenes were the compounds most commonly reported (54%). 68 proven biopharmacological activities were recorded for the species of Senna, highlighting the antioxidant and antitumoral activities.  DOI: 10.5935/1984-6835.2016001
