Além do emprego como biocombustível, o etanol pode ser utilizado como matéria-prima para produção de insumos químicos de elevada importância, como por exemplo, o óxido de etileno. O desenvolvimento de uma petroquímica renovável é de grande interesse ambiental e econômico. Dessa forma, a busca por novas rotas de produção desses insumos químicos, a partir de uma fonte renovável e de fácil acesso no país, será bastante relevante para o setor de biocombustíveis. Esse trabalho tratou catalisadores metálicos suportados em zeólita que visem a desidratação de etanol a eteno e a oxidação deste em óxido de etileno em uma única etapa. DOI: 10.5935/1984-6835.20140084In addition to the use as a biofuel, ethanol can also be used as a raw material for the production of chemicals of higher value, such as ethylene oxide. The development of chemicals from renewable materials as opposed to petrochemicals is of great environmental and economic interests. Thus, the search for new routes to produce these chemicals from an highly available renewable resource is of significant relevance to the biofuels industry.
