Technological advances, combined to high levels of consumption by the population, led to an increase in the generation of waste, which compromise the availability of natural resources, especially water resources. Furthermore, sensitive analytical detections have increased the detection of environmental micropollutants, many highly toxic. Therefore, the search for alternatives to the removal of micropollutants from water is necessary to overcome the methods currently available. Advanced oxidative processes are efficient for the removal of micropollutants. This review summarizes the main aspects of environmental contamination by endocrine disruptors and the use of Fenton reactions as advanced oxidation processes in the removal of these micropollutants. DOI: 10.5935/1984-6835.20120056O avanço tecnológico, associado aos altos níveis de consumo pela população, levou a um aumento na geração de resíduos ambientais que comprometem a disponibilidade de recursos naturais, principalmente de recursos hídricos. Associado a isto, o desenvolvimento de estratégias mais sensíveis de detecção analítica ocasionou um aumento na detecção de micropoluentes ambientais, muitos deles altamente tóxicos. Neste contexto, a busca por alternativas de remoção destes micropoluentes aquáticos se faz necessária, de maneira a ultrapassar a fronteira dos métodos de remoção atualmente disponíveis. Os processos oxidativos avançados são, reconhecidamente, alternativas eficientes para a remoção de micropoluentes ambientais. Este trabalho sumariza os principais aspectos da contaminação ambiental por interferentes endócrinos e o potencial de uso dos processos Fenton como processos oxidativos avançados na remoção destes micropoluentes. DOI: 10.5935/1984-6835.2012005
