O presente artigo propõe uma reflexão sobre novos delineamentos de pesquisa – transdisciplinares de longo prazo - que favoreçam a investigação sobre fenômenos complexos como os que envolvem os ecossistemas e as ações antrópicas. A química tem um papel importante nestes delineamentos, por favorecer o diálogo entre vários campos de conhecimento. Para enriquecer esta reflexão, este artigo apresenta a experiência do Programa Baía de Todos os Santos (BTS), iniciado em 2007 com horizonte temporal de 30 anos de estudo. Apesar dos desafios enfrentados, como a dificuldade do estabelecimento de uma linguagem comum ou a demanda por capacitação para atuação transdisciplinar, este tipo de desenho de pesquisa aponta uma tendência que, espera-se, seja irreversível no cenário atual da ciência, tecnologia e inovação (C,T&I) por responder à crescente complexidade dos fenômenos sócio ambientais e à demanda da sociedade por soluções que contribuam para uma vida melhor. DOI: 10.5935/1984-6835.20120040This article proposes a reflection on new research designs - long-term transdisciplinary studies - to favor the investigation of complex phenomena, such as those concerning with ecosystems and human activities. Chemistry has an important role in these designs, by promoting the dialogue between different fields of knowledge. To enrich this reflection, this article presents the experience of the Todos os Santos Bay (BTS) Research Program that began in 2007, with longitudinal horizon of 30 years of study. Despite the challenges, such as the difficulty of establishing a common language or the demand for a transdisciplinary capacity building, this type of research design indicates a trend, that is expected to be irreversible in the science, technology and innovation (C, T & I) current scenario to act upon the increasing complexity of the socio-environmental phenomena and the society's demand for solutions that contribute to a better life. DOI: 10.5935/1984-6835.2012004
