O presente trabalho teve como objetivo analisar a vulnerabilidade socioeconomica no entorno da bacia hidraulica do acude Jatoba II, no semiarido paraibano. A metodologia utilizada baseou-se em visitas in loco e aplicacao de questionarios aos moradores que vivem no entorno da bacia hidraulica. A vulnerabilidade socioeconomica encontrada foi de 50,0%, considerada muito alta. A renda da populacao que reside no entorno da bacia e muito baixa, sendo composta por aposentadoria, bolsa familia e seguro safra. Para complementar a renda as familias dos entrevistados realizam outras atividades como agricultura no periodo chuvoso, pecuaria dentre outras atividades, pois os beneficios nao suprem as despesas das familias. O saneamento e inexistente nessa area, alem disso, a seca severa prejudica a populacao que vive no entorno da bacia hidraulica, a agua consumida provem de cisternas, carros pipa e pocos artesianos. A vulnerabilidade socioeconomica muito alta encontrada na area de estudo demonstra a inexistencia de politicas publicas efetivas que visem contribuir com acoes voltadas a capacitar, informar e sanar os problemas existentes, podendo comprometer de forma direta ou indireta a saude dos moradores. In order to carry out the work, questionnaires were used to evaluate the socioeconomic conditions of the residents of the Jatoba II dam basin, regarding the measurement of vulnerabilities. In addition, bibliographic research was carried out in specialized websites, articles, periodicals, dissertations, theses and books related to the topic. The methodology used in the diagnosis of socioeconomic vulnerability was adapted from Rio Grande do Sul to the Paraiba semiarid. The socioeconomic vulnerability found was 50,0%, it is considered very high (>45%). The income of resident population of the basin is very low, composed of retirement, government family assistance and crop insurance. In order to complement families’ income, the interviewees perform other activities, such as agriculture, in rainy season, livestock and other activities, because the government benefits do not supply the household expenses. Sanitation is non-existent in this area, besides, severe drought, prejudice population that lives around the basin, the water consumed comes from cisterns, water trucks and artesian wells. The socioeconomic vulnerability found in this research area was very high, it demonstrate the inexistence of effective public policies aimed at contributing to actions on capacitating, informing and to solve existing problems, which may directly or indirectly compromise health of the residents.  Keywords: income, agriculture, sanitation .
