Esta pesquisa justifica-se pela necessidade de analise dos efeitos da politica habitacional brasileira recente (entre os anos de 2009 e 2014), situando-a no contexto da disponibilidade de infraestrutura urbana para as novas habitacoes. Em vista disso, o objetivo desse estudo foi discutir essa relacao entre a provisao habitacional e o ambiente urbano, na Regiao Metropolitana de Aracaju (SE). Para tanto, realizou-se pesquisa bibliografica, documental e analise de dados secundarios, assim como a observacao direta em campo e a elaboracao de mapas e cartogramas. Os resultados mostram que o incremento na producao de habitacoes proporcionado pelos programas e subsidios do Governo Federal, principalmente nas areas que tem seus efeitos mais evidenciados, nao tem sido acompanhado das necessarias melhorias na infraestrutura urbana, que em geral ja se apresentava insuficiente nas areas de implantacao dos empreendimentos. A B S T R A C T This research is justified by the need to analyze effects of the recent Brazilian housing policy (between the years 2009 and 2014), placing it in the context of the availability of urban infrastructure for the new habitations. In view of this, the aim of this study was to discuss the relationship between the habitation provision and the urban environment in the Metropolitan Zone of Aracaju (SE). It was conducted a bibliographical and documental research and an analysis of secondary data, as well as the direct observation and elaboration of maps and cartograms. The results showed that the increase in production of habitations due to the programs and subsidies of the Federal Government, mainly in areas in which their effects are most evident, has not been accompanied by the necessary improvements in urban infrastructure which, in general, already was insufficient in the areas in which the projects were implanted.
