mitomycin C (MMC) 5%を含有する直径45±8μmの小球体を用いた標的指向塞栓癌化学療法を切除不能転移性肝癌12例に対して施行し, 同時期に行った持続肝動注10例と比較検討した.MMC小球体群と持続肝動注群の背景因子には有意差はなく, MMC小球体の総投与量は12.5±11.1mg (MMCとして), 持続動注群はMMC 32.9±17.8mg, 5-FU 14.7±8.0gを投与した.腫瘤縮小率と血中CEAの下降は両群間に有意の差は認められなかった.生存率の検定ではMMC小球体群の方がGeneralized Wilcoxon testにおいてz=8.302, p=0.0040, Cox-Mantel testにおいてもz=6.957, p=0.0084において優れており, 両群を構成する胃癌, 大腸癌の比較においても同様にMMC小球体が有用であった.MMC小球体の副作用が一過性に認められた.
