Programming is the basis of the Computing area because it allows the development of problem solving skills and computational thinking. However, due to the degree of difficulty and understanding of their concepts, the disciplines that involve programming have a high failure rate. In this context, this research aims to analyze how students of the Information Systems course at Universidade Federal do Para learned to program. Thus, the Survey method was applied to 80 students in order to collect and analyze data on programming learning. The main result obtained was the identification of the relationship between prior knowledge and performance in disciplines involving programming and the learning strategies that students use to learn how to program.
