Fifty-seven patients with epistaxis requiring hospitalization during the past eight years were analyzed statistically. The incidence was higher in the middle and older age groups than the younger age group. Such severe epistaxis occurred more frequently in winter and in June. The bleeding site was observed more often in areas other than Little's area (73.7%). They had complications of some systemic diseases, especially hypertension (42%). At admission, anemia was seen in 61% of the patients most of whom were males over fifty years old. The duration of hospitalization was less than fifteen days. Half of the cases were treated with Bellocq's tamponade in addition to other conservative therapies. None of the patients required arterial ligation.
