En este artículo analizo en qué sentido, como expresó Wollheim, las llamadas «emociones morales» desempeñan un papel importante pero ambiguo en la reflexión moral y en la vida moral. Para alcanzar este fin, me fijaré en dos personajes literarios, el héroe de la tragedia de Sófocles Edipo Rey, por un lado, y Patrick Bateman, el «héroe» de la novela American Psycho, por otro. Ambos personajes representan dos formas extremas de incapacidad moral debida a un desarrollo emocional enfermo, en un caso, o a una emotividad inadecuada, en el otro.My aim in this paper is to explore how, as Wollheim put it, the «so-called moral emotions» play a transcendet but ambiguous role in moral reflection as well as in moral life. In doing so I am going to pay attention to two literary characters: Oedipus, the hero of the Sophoclean tragedy Oedpus Rex, and on the other hand Patrick Bateman, the «hero» of the novel American Psycho. Both of these characters represent some kind of extreme moral incapacity due to a diseased moral development, in one case, and to a distorted emotivity on the other
