Özet GİRİŞ ve AMAÇ: Çocukluk çağında giderek artan sıklıklıkta görülen obezite büyük halk sağlığı problemi haline gelmiştir. Bu çalışmada, Ankara ilinde yüksek, orta ve düşük sosyoekonomik düzeyli üç ilköğretim okulunda eğitim gören çocuklarda obezite prevelansı ve obezite gelişiminde rol oynayan risk faktörlerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. YÖNTEM ve GEREÇLER: Çalışmamızda gruplar yüksek (Grup I), orta (Grup II), düşük (Grup III) olmak üzere üç sosyoekonomik seviyeden oluşmaktadır. Aileye içinde anne-baba boy ve kiloları, beslenme alışkanlıkları, boş zamanlarında en çok ne yaptığı, okula giderken yürüyüp yürümediği, annenin ve babanın eğitim seviyesi hakkında sorular içeren bir anket gönderildi ve yazılı izinler alındı. BULGULAR: Çalışmamıza üç grupta toplam 6815 (E/K 3529/ 3286) öğrenci katılmıştır. Grup I deki obezite prevelansı, Grup II’den ve Grup III’den daha fazla bulunmuş; fakat sadece Grup I ve Grup III arasındaki fark istatiksel olarak anlamlı bulunmuştur. Anne ve babanın eğitim ve ekonomik düzeyi üniversite mezunları olanlar karşılaştırıldığında Grup I’de, Grup II ve Grup III’den anlamlı yüksek bulunmuştur. Gruplara göre öğrencilerin düzenli ve ara öğün yeme alışkanlıkları karşılaştırıldığında her üç grup arasında istatiksel anlamlı fark saptanmamıştır. TARTIŞMA ve SONUÇ: Önemli bir morbidite nedeni olan obezitenin uzun dönem olumsuz sonuçlarını önlemeye yönelik girişimler okul öncesi dönemden başlamalıdır. Obezite küresel bir sorun olmakla birlikte, obezite sıklığı sosyoekonomik düzeyi yüksek kesimlerde artmaktadır. Abstract INTRODUCTION: The increasing prevalance of obesity is a major public health problem in both the developed and the developing world. Our study is designed to estimate the prevalance of obesity and related risk factors for the primary school children of higher, medium and lower socioeconomic status in Ankara. METHODS: In our study groups are included higher (group I), medium (group II), and lower (group III) socioeconomic level. A questionnaire was applied to students’ parents including questions about parent’s weight and height, eating habits, parent’s education, sociaeconomic level and the physical activity routine. RESULTS: Totally 6815 students (M/F: 3529/ 3286) were included in the analysis, in three groups. The prevalance of obesity in group I was more than group II and group III, but only difference between Group I and Group III was statistically significant. Compared to average incomes of the family's economic level Group I was significant from Group II and Group III. Compared to regular snacks and eating habits of the students into groups there were no statistically significant differences between the three groups. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Obesity and prevention of long-term negative consequences of obesity must start at preschool period. As obesity is the global problem, obesity prevalence is increasing in children with high socio-economic levels.
