The city of Indaiatuba is located in the Metropolitan Region of Campinas (RMC) and has a strong urbanization rate result of the transformations that occurred in Brazilian urban structure from the mid-twentieth century, notably present in the region, which contributed to a high population growth and the industrialization process. These factors contributed to the sharp expansion of the urban area of the city and consequently the advancement of the natural environment, creating environmental impacts and also social. The main objective of the work is the mapping of the Permanent Preservation Areas (PPA) in the city of Indaiatuba (SP) and subsequent analysis of land use (with an emphasis on urban area) to examine their current uses and verify the adequacy with legislation, that is, with the new Forest Code, Federal Law 12.651/2012, pointing out the main environmental impacts correlated with the urban expansion which occured from the 1970s. The analysis was performed based on the interpretation of orthophotos and use and land occupation mapping in the PPA, followed by field verification, and use of geotechnologies for data processing. It was found that the APP cover 49.93 km2 (15.93%) of the total area of the city. And, of this total, 52.17% (26.05 km2) of PPA the occupation is in disagreement with current legislation.
