The evaporated extract of Borassus aethiopum fruit ash locally called ‘dalang’ was analysed for its elemental content using standard analytical techniques. The pericarp and endocarp ashes of the fruit contained varying concentrations(in ppm) of the elements in the following order K(2050)> Na(2024)> Mn(0.60)>Ca(0.487)> Cd (0.47)Fe(0.25)>Pd(0.021)>Cu(0.02)>Zn(0.01)for the pericarp and K(2750)>Na(2208) >Mn(2.00)>Ca(0.955)>Fe (0.488)> Cd (0.52)> Pd (0.21)> Cu ( 0.113)> Zn(0.018) for the endocarp. The rich sodium and potassium content suggests that the fruit is a good supplement for Na and K. The K:Na ratio also suggests an appropriate balance, therefore consumption of the fruit or dalang of Borassus aethiopum fruit can boost cardiovascular health.
