Objective: This study was conducted in order to determine the impact of type of delivery, and anesthesia received at delivery on postpartum comfort levels. Method: This comparative and descriptive study was conducted in obstetrics service of a university hospital in a city in eastern Turkey. The population of the study was consisted of all of the women who gave birth in the obstetrics service between January and December 2015. The sample of the study was calculated according to formula of sample size used in cases where population is known and totally 405 postpartum women agreed to participate in the study including those having cesarean section under general (n=131) or regional anesthesia (n=138) and 136 women giving vaginal birth. “Questionnaire Form” and “Postpartum Comfort Scale” were used to collect the data. The data were collected by using face-to-face interview technique by researcher in the rooms of the postpartum women on the day they will be discharged. Results: The difference between the Postpartum Comfort Scale subdimensions and total score averages of puerperal women were found to be statistically significant according to the type of delivery and the type of anesthesia they received (p<0.05). It was found that the difference between experiencing some problems in postpartum period was significant according to the women’s type of delivery and the type of anesthesia they received (p<0.05). It was found that the difference between the mean total Postpartum Comfort Scale scores were found to be significant in consideration of some problems experienced by puerperal women during postpartum period (p<0.0). Conclusion: It was found that postpartum comfort levels were higher in women giving vaginal delivery when compared with women having cesarean section, and those having cesarean section under regional anesthesia in comparison with women having cesarean section under general anesthesia. It was found that puerperal women who had cesarean section under general anesthesia experienced more problems during postpartum period than others and these problems negatively affected postpartum comfort levels.
