The development and use of nowcasting systems should inevitably beaccompanied by the development and application of suitable verificationmethods. A thorough verification strategy is needed to adequately assess thequality of the system and consequently to lead to improvements. Differentverification methods for thunderstorms and its attributes are discussed alongwith the importance of observational data sets. They are applied to tworadar-based nowcasting algorithms for a convective season using variousobservation data sets. The results show, that the combination of the twoalgorithms outperforms a single algorithm
