Photochemistry in polluted atmospheres, particularly the formation of ozone(O3), depends not only on pollutant emissions, but also onmeteorological conditions. In this study a 3-D chemical transport model CAMxwas employed to investigate the O3 formation and its response toemissions reduction under three distinctively different meteorologicalconditions in the Mexico City Metropolitan Area during the MCMA-2003 fieldmeasurement campaign. The O3 formation characteristics and sensitivityto emissions change were found to be weakly dependent on the meteorologicalconditions. The evolution of O3 formation and its sensitivity toNOx and VOC levels were also examined along the photochemical plumetransport pathway. The midday O3 production was found to undergo arapid increase in a narrow range of chemical aging, while downwind plumeswere characterized with low and constant O3 production, and plumesalong their transport pathway were characterized by a combination of thetwo. The O3 formation was more VOC sensitive near the source area, butas the plume became chemically aged, O3 formation became progressivelyVOC insensitive and more NOx sensitive
