The present scientific essay was based on the need to gather, systematize, the theoretical foundations basic concepts on which Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) for treatment is based Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). The DBT was created by Marsha Linehan, based on concepts from the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and articulated with elements of mindfulness through dialectical philosophy and en. It consists of five treatment modalities individual therapy, telephone contact, consultation of the therapist, group training in skills and structuring of the environment. It also has four types of skills that the patient needs to develop: core skills of active awareness, interpersonal effectiveness skills, emotion modulation skills, and tolerance skill discomfort. It has a variable duration time, starts with the pretreatment stage, and continues with four stages of treatment, each with its respective objectives. The Challenges and challenges presented by this therapy is, on its effectiveness of the components of the DBT and their contribution to improving and adaptation in the BDP. It is concluded that DBT has been shown to be effective in reducing symptoms of BPD such as self-aggression and suicidal ideation; this has been demonstrated and evidenced in numerous studies made to date.
