Plant parasitic nematodes are responsible to significant decline in coffee crops. In Paraná State, Brazil, the more damaging species are Meloidogyne incognita and M. paranaensis. Resistance sources are available, but only a low number of arabica coffee cultivars carry this characteristic. Therefore, the objective of the present work was to evaluate the host reaction to M. paranaensis of coffee genotypes derived from ‘Sarchimor’ IAPAR 88480-8. Eleven ‘Sarchimor’ genotypes and the cultivars Tupi IAC 1669-33 and Catuaí Vermelho IAC 99 (susceptible standard) were evaluated in two 90 days long experiments. Plants were inoculated with 1,400 or 1,000 eggs, in experiments 1 and 2, respectively. The reproduction factor (RF) and the number of nematodes per gram of roots (Nema/g) were calculated. Great phenotypic variability was observed between the coffee genotypes tested. At least three ‘Sarchimor’ genotypes had lower susceptibility to M. paranaensis. The cultivar Tupi IAC 1669-33 and the other ‘Sarchimor’ genotypes tested were as susceptible as ‘Catuaí Vermelho IAC 99’ to M. paranaensis and must be avoided in infested areas.
